Week 2

1. Find 5 reference images of different landscapes. Post them to your blog Include an image of your country of origin. In a short sentence, list characteristics of the vegetation, terrain, lighting for each one.

This island is a narrow strip island with large hills and not too many trees, the lighting is bright especially on the side the sun hits.

An underwater cave would be really cool, the Lighting would be mystical and luminous, the main vegetation would be moss, the rocks would have gaping holes allowing the caves to form.

Steep sloped V shape valleys with heavy forests, bright lighting on the side where the sun hits and dark shadows on the other side.

These are smooth tea plantation valleys of Sri Lanka, my country of origin, being high up it is usually cloudy or misty creating a luminous green light due to the heavy presence of lush vegetation including jungles and tea trees.

The dramatic forms of the islands of Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, the islands rise dramatically from the sea, the vegetation seems to be bush and minimal jungle the light forms long shadows due the the steep high rising masses of land.

3. Choose one of your reference images as the basis for your island.

6. Using Fraps, post 5 images from different vantage points within your custom island. Each image should illustrate a different sense of scale. Use objects as brushes to help the viewer identify the sense of scale in each image. Write a word under each image that best describes the feeling of that image.

2. In approximately 50 words reflect on this week’s lecture and make a unique observation regarding its content as it relates to your own work.
The lecture explored interesting elements of the sublime such as ancient looking fragments of architecture that stand alone on a natural terrain creates an air of awe as one questions the island’s history which we can be made more mysterious and fantasy like depending o the combination of environmental elements chosen.
